Execution

August 8th, 2010

We struggle to imagine why, when we are clear about goals and pay big bonuses to get certain results, we can end up not achieving our goals for the organization. Although it’s easy to blame the market or a specific event, there are some troublemakers in our environment that we allow because they occur at an unconscious level. We work with you and your leaders to identify and mitigate or expunge the cultural norms that, when accepted, reduce effectiveness and results. Here are some examples of these troublemakers:

  • Many people believe that if they tell someone what to do and even how to do it, it will get done. Seems logical, but in truth our Old Brains can and do prevent this from working.
  • The mind-reading error: we assume if after thorough discussion something is clear in my head, it is equally as clear in someone else’s head.
  • We bat away distractions as if they are annoying gnats, but in truth we are often distracted in unconscious ways that prevent timely and effective action.
  • False urgency rushes our decisions and actions and helps us fly helplessly over the best of our thinking.
  • When we ask people to do things for the wrong reasons, either they resist because it feels wrong or they get confused trying to see the rightness of it.

If any of these areas strikes a cord with you, we want to help. Feel free to contact us for additional information!
